The Prebill

With computer software, the prebill has taken on new dimensions. In manual billing systems, attorneys often prepared a rough draft bill from which he or she would edit and create (after usually more than one draft) a bill.

With the first word processors, editing became easier and more flexible. With the first software based attorney billing systems the prebill took on added dimensions allowing attorneys to browse through prebills at any point in time and print and preview actual preview bills.

Instead of billing being crunch time at the end of the month, some attorneys now browse through and edit prebills during the month.

For larger firms with many attorneys and paraprofessionals working on matters, the prebill takes on added significance. Billing attorneys can now review work as is it being done and recorded and give added direction to paraprofessionals.

For some law offices the prebill has almost become a case and personnel management tool.

Interbill has been mindful of and a force in development of the prebill. Our first editing attempts featured an ability to present a prebill that allowed users to edit on the original log entry.

Our current prebill allows editing directly on the prebill including the ability to add any kind of entry on the prebill and allows users to view a statement preview on the log or on the prebill.
