New Client Payment Options from Interbill

Law Firm Financial Consultant Bruce MacEwen in his book ,“Growth Is Dead-Now What?,” said that there are two things necessary to sustain a private law practice: Getting Clients and Getting Them To Pay.

Interbill is in the business of getting clients to pay, not in the business of getting clients, although sometimes accommodating client payment realities is appreciated and can encourage new referral business.

More and more law offices are emailing their statements. The most effective way to get paid from emailed statements is to provide a link on the statement to a payment portal from which the client can select to pay by credit or debit card.

If the client prefers to pay by check, there is new technology on the way in 2014 to allow them to use their smart phones to take a picture of a check and pay your bill. Right now this technology exists to deposit a check into an account, but not to pay a check into another account. This technology should be available through Interbill in the second quarter of 2014.

Interbill is also developing smart phone applications for client payments and billing notifications. To communicate that a retainer needs to be replenished or a retainer installment is due, clients can be notified via Interbill’s free client application.

In 2014, Interbill will also be offering AutoPay so clients can pay monthly installments by having the installment amount automatically transferred from their credit or debit card account to pay the monthly installment to your office. An email will be sent 5 days prior to advise the client of each pending transaction.
